The 19th annual Festival of the West comes to WestWorld in Scottsdale this weekend and offers visitors a wide range of Old West-style music, shopping, food and more.  This fun Western festival runs Thursday, March 19 — Sunday, March 22.  Here are a few highlights from the list of activities taking place during this rip-roarin’ four-day event:

A popular annual event, the Festival of the West Costume Contest, will be held Saturday, March 21st. Dress up as your favorite character and join the fun competing for trophies and ribbons.  Get creative and come up with your version of a glittery Hollywood cowboy, a rambunctious saloon girl, shifty-eyed snake oil salesman or rugged mountain man.

Also taking place on Saturday is the Safeway Rancher’s Reserve Chuckwagon Cook-Off.  Chuck wagons, complete with “Old West” cooks, come from all over the country to vie for prizes for the best “trail-style grub.” Cooking over open fires, contestants rustle up the traditional Western meal of beef, beans and biscuits plus fixin’s like taters and a dessert. Chuck wagons are also judged for how authentic they are in recreating a real Old West experience.

On-going events at the four-day Western Fest include three stages of continuous western music and cowboy entertainment with some of the country’s top Western performers appearing plus a shopping extravaganza called the “Western Trade Show” with more than 200 exhibitors selling Western-themed arts, crafts and more.
