This wildly colorful glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly greets visitors to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.
If you’re a fan of the remarkable glass ceiling art found in the registration area of The Bellagio in Las Vegas and you are in or planning a trip to Phoenix, you won’t want to miss a special event happening now at the Desert Botanical Garden. The exhibit is by world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly who is known for his innovative glass sculptures. His work – including the vividly imagined Bellagio ceiling – is immediately recognizable for its grand scale and vibrant colors.
Chihuly: The Nature of Glass features works of glass artfully located throughout the desert landscape of the Garden and is his first exhibition in an outdoor desert environment. Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a perfectly gorgeous Arizona afternoon taking in this special event with a group of friends. We were enthralled with the way these whimsical and brilliantly-colored pieces were interwoven with the muted greens and stark shapes of our desert plant life.
The exhibit runs through May 31 and reservations ($15) are required. We toured during the noon – 4 p.m. time slot but heard that the evening walk was even more spectacular with the candy-colored art pieces lit up against the desert skies.
